Binnovation

Many local residents will have heard of, or will be hearing shortly about the Binnovation Scheme, which will be taking place with in the Glossopdale Area, from the end of the month.

The below details are taken from the Council's Website and offer more information on what the scheme is, and how it will work.

The Green Lidded bin's mentioned below, will be getting delivered to local residents on the estate toward the end of the week beginning Monday 17th May.

What is Binnovation?

Binnovation is the new name for recycling and refuse collection services in the High Peak area. It is based on best practice developed by some of the UK's top local authority recyclers and will enable the council to meet challenging targets for recycling and refuse collection.

Binnovation is part of our overall aim to enhance the quality of the local and global environment. It is a small but important part of a European-wide strategy to tackle climate change.

By 2010 the council must:

  • More than double its recycling and composting rate
  • Reduce the amount of rubbish sent to landfill by nearly 50%

Benefits of Binnovation:

  • It's even easier and more convenient to recycle
  • More materials are now included
  • Simple, easy to understand collection arrangements
  • Recycling keeps down the cost of waste disposal

And...

  • Increases the amount of material being collected for recycling and composting
  • Reduces the amount of waste that has to be landfilled
  • Reduces the amount of harmful gasses, which are a cause of global warming, being released from landfill sites into the atmosphere
  • Reduces potential pollution of watercourses
  • Preserves valuable resources and environments from which raw materials are extracted
  • Provides valuable raw materials for new products and new industries
