In February 2006 High Peak Borough Council,
along with High Peak Community Housing carried out a consultation around 2
possible sites for housing schemes.
Local residents were opposed to
both schemes and following a public meeting, one scheme was withdrawn and
the other was placed on hold.
The council have now decided to
consult on 4 possible alternative locations for the "supported housing for
young people scheme", and a leaflet advertising a consultation event on
Tuesday 19th September, is currently being delivered to all houses on the
estate.
Following concerns raised with
the distribution of the leaflet the leader of High Peak Borough Council
(Cllr Dave Loamx - Lib Dem) has made the following comments to the local
paper :
“The council is responding to
local housing demands for young people.
We conducted initial
consultations with the residents on a location for a housing scheme for
young people earlier this year. At the initial meeting it was clear that
local people were opposed to the proposed original location. We agreed to
re-assess the situation and look at alternative locations. This has been
done and we now want to hear people’s opinions on the new proposals.”
The Four locations
The four locations been put forward by the
council are :
Hathersage Crescent
•
Brassington Crescent/Hollins Mews
•
Youlgreave Crescent/Melandra Castle Road
•
Melandra Castle Road opposite Castleton Terrace
The first three schemes are located
on car parks, with the fourth scheme being located on the 'green belt' at
the edge of the estate.
The proposal is for a two story
building containing 8 self contained flats and an on site office.
Further details on the schemes will
be available at the consultation event on Tuesday 19th September, between
3pm and 6pm in the Cafe of the Gamesley Sport and Community Centre on
Melandra Castle Road.
